The app

EditCurve runs on your Mac. Projects and media stay there. The app uses the internet for:

• Licence activation and checks — your key, a short anonymous identifier for this Mac and its computer name go to Lemon Squeezy to activate, validate or deactivate the key. Lemon Squeezy is an independent controller for that payment and licence service.
• Updates — the app checks our update feed (about once a day) and downloads updates you approve. No name or email is sent.
• AI Assistant (optional) — only if you add your own API key. Descriptions of the open project (layer names, sizes, timings, drawing paths — never your footage) go to the chat provider you chose. If Images is on, the prompt you type goes to the image provider you assigned. A picture you attach to a message (a screenshot or sketch) goes to the chat provider with it; the assistant also sends small pictures of the stage when it checks its own work. If you dictate a request, speech is recognised on your Mac where it has the language’s offline model, otherwise by Apple’s dictation service; the text then goes to the chat provider like anything typed. Keys stay in the Mac Keychain. This stays off until you set it up.
• Interactive web pages — interactions and any JavaScript you add run only in the pages you export, in your visitors' browsers, and in the app's Interactive Preview, which is a separate web view that keeps nothing once closed. EditCurve does not run that code itself or send it anywhere. Scripts in projects from someone else stay switched off until you allow them; that record is kept on your Mac.

This website

• Accounts — an account is optional; the app and a licence work without one. If you create one we store your email address, the name you give, a salted one-way hash of your password (never the password itself), when you accepted the terms, and the browsers and copies of the app you are signed in on (a description of each and when it was last used). If you link a licence we store a one-way hash of the key, its last four characters and what the store reports about it (status and how many Macs use it), never the key itself. We email you only about your account: confirming your address, resetting your password, and replies to your support conversations. Emails are sent through Resend.
• Saved work — components and project files you save from the app are stored on our server under your account, with their name, size and when you saved them, until you delete them or your account. A shared item can be seen by anyone with its link; comments show the commenter's name. Components you submit and we approve are published in the stock library with your name as credit.
• Support form — name (optional), email (required) and message are stored so we can reply. We also store a one-way hash of the connection address to limit abuse. We do not sell this.
• Free trial download — email is required before the disk image starts, so we know who requested the trial. We store that address, the app version, and a one-way hash of the connection address to limit abuse. We do not sell it. A hidden field and a short wait reject automated submissions.
• Visits and downloads — if you accept stats, we count the path, the day, whether the request looked like the website or the Mac app, and a device category such as iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows PC or Android. For a page view or a download we map the request IP to a country and continent, add one to that region, and discard the IP. We do not store the full browser description, addresses, cities or GPS.
• Purchases — Lemon Squeezy is merchant of record. They collect email and payment details under their policy. We keep an order record with a one-way hash of the email and the last characters of the licence key so we can help you.
• Your choice — Accept or Essential only is stored in this browser so the banner does not return every visit. That is not an advertising cookie. We set no advertising or third-party analytics cookies.

Legal bases

• Accounts and linked licences: contract — you asked for the account and the services that come with it.
• Support messages: we need the email to reply (contract / legitimate interest in answering you).
• Trial download email: you asked for the file (steps toward a contract / legitimate interest in knowing who received the trial build).
• Visit and download counts: legitimate interest in running the site, and consent where the banner asks for it.
• Orders: contract and legal obligation (tax, fraud).
• Licence checks in the app: contract.

How long we keep it

Accounts until you ask us to delete yours; signed-in sessions expire after 30 days in a browser and 180 days in the app, or when you sign them out. Support messages until we have answered and no longer need them for the request, or you ask us to delete them. Trial emails until you ask us to delete them, or we no longer need them to know who received a build. Counts are kept as daily totals, not as a profile of you. Order hashes are kept for as long as we may need to support the licence.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of what we hold, a correction, or deletion, and you can object to counts that are not required to run the site. Write through the support form. You can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
