The EditCurve Assistant.

The last tab in the Inspector is a chat that changes the open project — with the same tools you use. Bring your own keys. Footage never leaves the Mac.

In the Inspector

Not a window on top of the app.

The Assistant is the last Inspector tab — the gold asterisk. Open it from the tab strip or EditCurve ▸ AI Assistant… (⇧⌘/). You stay on the stage while it works.

  • Type what you want: “add a title, fade it in over a second, soft shadow.”
  • Every turn is one undo step named AI Edit — ⌘Z walks the whole change back.
  • The thread is saved in the project file. Reopen and continue. Keys are never stored in the project.
  • Usage and a list-price estimate sit in the panel. EditCurve does not sell AI access.

Your keys

Claude, OpenAI, or your own endpoint.

AI Settings ▸ Accounts holds the providers. Keys live in the Mac Keychain. You pay the provider directly — EditCurve takes no cut.

Anthropic Claude

Chat for the Assistant. Suggested models include Sonnet and Opus families. Effort: Fast, Balanced, Thorough, Max — the header chip reads like “Opus · Balanced.”

OpenAI

Chat and/or images. Suggested chat models include GPT-4o and 4.1. Images use GPT Image when that job is assigned here.

  • Custom — any OpenAI-compatible base URL (local models, proxies). Example default shape: a local /v1 endpoint.
  • Assignments. Assistant account and Images account are separate — a turn can talk on Claude and paint on OpenAI.
  • Test Connection, Get API Key, Add Credit and Prices links sit in Settings so you stay with the provider’s own billing.

Same tools as you

What a turn can change.

The Assistant calls the same project commands the UI uses — up to ten tool rounds per turn. It does not “see” the stage picture; it works from project metadata and tool results.

  • Compositions — create or update name, size, duration, frame rate, background, Composition or Sequence mode.
  • Layers — text, shapes, solids, adjustment, Drawing, existing media; delete, rename, timing, transform, blend; place against frame edges for titles and lower thirds.
  • Text — wording, font, weight, size, colour, tracking, line spacing, alignment, stroke.
  • Motion & look — keyframes (position, scale, rotation, opacity, anchor), catalog effects, behavior presets.
  • Drawing — vector paths, nodes, stroke/fill/gradients, trim write-on, path morphs.
  • Mention a layer with @ so the turn knows exactly which clip you mean.

Optional

Images stay off until you turn them on.

The Images chip is Off by default. Turn it on and a sentence can become a still on the stage — then the Assistant keys and places it like any other image layer.

  • Quality: Draft / Standard / Best. Models: GPT Image 1 and GPT Image 1 mini (OpenAI or a custom OpenAI-compatible account — Claude has no image API).
  • Default look: a transparent cutout of one subject; square, landscape or portrait.
  • Files land under Application Support ▸ EditCurve ▸ AI Images, and in the project’s AI Images library folder. Package Project copies them.
  • No image-to-image edit of an existing bitmap — generate, then treat it as media.

Library

Fill the box. Nothing sends until Return.

The prompt library sits beside Mention. Pick a card — it fills the composer. Categories: Titles, Motion, Drawing, Look, Showcase.

  • Everyday: lower third, title card, kinetic caption, slow push, stagger entrances, logo sting, write-on signature, callout arrow, filmic look.
  • Showcase idents (long-form) such as Spy Thriller Ident and Cinematic Title Ident — some pull in demo Samples images under one undo.
  • Tokens like footage / text / layer resolve from your selection. Empty-state TRY chips adapt to what’s already on the timeline.

On your Mac

Footage never leaves for chat.

Only after you add a key does anything go to a provider. For Assistant turns that is a description of the project — layer names, sizes, timings, transforms, drawing paths, media library names and kinds — plus your chat text and tool traffic.

  • Media file bytes are not uploaded for the chat.
  • If Images is on, the image prompt goes to the image account you assigned; the PNG comes back and is saved locally.
  • Conversation text lives in the project file. Keys stay in the Keychain. EditCurve never sees your card.
  • On-device transcription (Apple) is separate from this chat — “Nothing leaves this Mac” for that path when you use it.
